Cant find Jem FP serial number on guitar

Ok so theres a supposed 89 FP a guy has for sale and he cant find the serial number.Not on the neck or neck plate and he says there are no scratch marks on the neck plate like an attempt to scratch the number off.
So where do I tell him to look?
