changing string action quick question

1219 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  rty13ibz98
if I want to lower the string action, can I do that without having to intonate the thing again? and can I lower it without having to take off the strings or the floyd?

thanks

which model guitar and floyd do you have? You probably don't have to take off the strings OR the trem.

go to the tech section. you should just have to do one of 3 things...

raise/lower the bridge with the pivot posts
adjust the angle of the trem
adjust the truss rod

all tips for this are in the tech section or on ibanezrules.com

Reading about it is all well and good, but unless you actually see it done for yourself then it may still elude you. I watched the tech at my local guitar shop change the strings on my RG370DX and fix the action by lowering the trem and straightening the neck all in under 30 minutes. I was very impressed and learned several things in the process (like how that stringing the balls at the headstock thing works AND that you don't have to change one string at a time).

i show all of my students how to setup their guitars if they want me to. i go in depth about the physics of how each adjustments affects the guitar overall. i especially do this when i mod an axe, usually with soldering, but not limited to it.
