I have a rg350dxz which has a HSH configuration. According to the specs, position 2 and 4 split the humbuckers to the inner coils so I figured I could install a spdt switch to toggle the middle pickup on or off to get split coil tones. But now the humbuckers don’t even split in those middle positions.

I’m wiring the switch so it disconnects the middle pickup from the selector. Do I have to wire it differently?

I’m pretty sure my guitar is similar to this wiring diagram here:

Can you go ever exactly what your after position by position?

Is it a 5 way still and your adding an additional switch or what

The default positions are: Neck hum / Neck inner coil + Middle / Middle / Bridge inner coil + Middle / Bridge hum

I’ve added a switch that can toggle the middle pickup off, so that it (supposedly) becomes: Neck hum / Neck inner coil / Off / Bridge inner coil / Bridge hum

But now position 2 and 4 are full humbucker instead of the respective inner coil.

Does anyone know what the three wires on the quantum humbucker do? When I disconnect the red wire from the selector the pickup is still a humbucker, while disconnecting the white wire disable the entire pickup.

Generally the white is hot for Ibanez and red is the splits.

So your going to want to keep the white on position 1 and 5 from neck and bridge.

Then the reds will need to be 2 and 4.

I assume pos 3 you have the second switch wired on its own for the kill switch you added.

Correct?

I figured it out. Turns out it’s the same as splitting a two-wire humbucker: Both coils are wired in series with the red wire in the middle: when the red wire is connected to ground, the outer coil is redirected to ground leaving only the inner coil active.
