i have (had) and RG421 that i am doing some stuff to. for the new version, i want to direct mount the pickups like my 7620. however, the routes (routs?)....um..its routed really deep in the pickup cavity. now i want to direct mount, but it seems that the wood i would need to screw the pickup to is gone to make room for the screws when the pickups are ring mounted. how would you guys overcome this? glue some small blocks in there to screw the pickup to or what? im scared to screw into the cavity because i think the wood is really thin down there and i dont want screws poppin out of the back of the guitar. suggestions?

Measure how deep the cavity is. The body is about 45mm thick, so you can work out if you have enough room. If not, some blocks of wood as you said should do it.
