Darkening a fretboard on a Jem JR and then "lock" it

Hello,

I'm a new member (but a long-time reader...). I've read a few threads on the theme I'm about to discuss, without finding an answer.

(Parenthesis : I've got a 1992 Jem Blue Floral, bought in 1993, that's my only Jem (I've got a JS 1000 too...))

I've always wanted another Jem, with a preference for the white one I saw Steve playing live in France, 30 years ago... (Ouch...)
But now, they are a bit expensive (even the indonesian Premium).
So, when I saw a second hand one near my town (just a Jem JR..., for 350 €...), I jumped on it. Perhaps with some future mods in mind...

The first thing I wanted to mod, is the color of the fretboard (too "red" for me).
So I darkened it with Fiebing's Pro Dye (look at the attached photo to see the difference between the two colors).

Now the neck is completely done (and with a second pass, even more darker, like ebony, almost...).

I didn't put the strings back and so didn't played yet.
I'm wondering if the dye will stain on my fingers, with the perspiration, and how long the dye will stay (on the board, not on my fingers).
Perhaps there's a way to "lock" the dye to the fretboard.
I've read about Tung oil, Bore oil, linseed oil, but honestly, I'm a little lost... And I believe I've read everything and its opposite...

Another thing : on my others guitars with rosewood fretboards, I apply once a year lemon oil, which is good I think to "feed" the wood.
On this neck, I wiped the excess of dye with alcohol (notably on the tree of life inlays). And I'm wondering : does lemon oil have the same effect as alcohol ? And will it remove the dye ? (I don't want to test and have to redo a part of the work...)

Does anyone have an idea on all of the above ?

(Sorry if I was a bit long (and sorry for my english).)

Thank you.

Staining it will give you some sooty ass fingers. Tung oil will darken the board
I would not, just oil it with lemon oil. Dying gets messy, "locking it in" sounds like too much of a hassle for a econoJem

New guy here. All you have to do is oil it with lemon oil.

"Sooty ass fingers" (I had to google translate that in french)... Oh my god ! 😅😁 Really ? Thanks for the warning.

Do you mean not to use Tung oil ?
If lemon oil is enough to maintain it, that's ok for me. Thank you. I take every advice from everyone, and then I will choose. (I didn't know about the "econoJem" 😀)
Does anyone else have any other experience or advice ?

Ok ! I will try this. Thanks.
I've stained several guitar fretboards over the years, so yes it will stain your fingers for a while, but then it will go away, depending on how much and frequently you play. After staining, just use lemon oil to maintain it and it's good. Many guitar manufacturers stain their boards, one guitar gave me stained fingers for a while and it was an unmodified original.

terrible quality
Hi,
What do you mean ? The guitar itself ?
I thought ir came like that from factory lol

tho the jem jr isn’t the greatest quality i tried one and I didn’t like it

for $500 more the genesis is superior in every way

Ok. No problem. ;)

I don't know the Genesis model... I'll check it out.
