I was thinking about adding a figured top and a matching headstock and was wondering if it would look bad without adding binding. I've seen a few that haven't had body binding that look alright but wouldn't the headstock look bad without the binding? I suppose you would have to use a pretty thin sheet of veneer to not make the edges very noticable without binding, any thoughts on a good thickness to use?

It really just depends on what look your prefer. If you think it looks better with binding, then put binding on it. If you think it looks OK without the binding then leave it the way it is.

You don't need headstock binding if you want to put a headstock overlay

(not unless you want to)
