I have to say no. I really like sabers, but I think this one is just too mush. The color is good, but not transparent on flamed maple AND with gold hardware (which I don't like anyway). The 'Kung Fu grip' (or whatever it's called) is plain useless. It's not like you can't grip the upper horn without it.
His custom plain 24-fret Saber he used before this one is pretty ok actually.
I like the color w/ the flame and I love 24 fret S's but I don't like the grip, the inlay and the gold. I might like the gold if they excluded the pickup covers and strap locks or made the hardware like partially black or cosmo, partially gold.
I love everything about the guitar apart from the grip and the trem. The trem is personal preference but the grip is like the JEM's handle, but with a punchline doesn't quite deliver probably because it's been done before.
Everything else the inlays, the pickups, and especially the truly ingenious "player's" mods like the front pickup ring, the rear lower cutaway, 24 fret S body - great.
Sorry, Herman it's a great guitar, but just not the one for me
got to play one... very nice instrument... it's a very modernized version of the S540FM's but:
I don't like the "matte" finish... no fingerprints so that's a plus
That huge routing behind the saddles!
Very light... almost neck-heavy; the S5470 I have seems to have better "balance"
Little bit more expensive than a Jem? I'd get it if it was around the same price range as the S5470's.
The "extreme" scoop isn't that much noticeable... the 5470's have 'em but not as "deep".
Otherwise, the pickups are so-so but do they scream in neck and bridge positions.
It looks too modded, and I don't like the gold pickup rings or the gold hardware in general. The purple flamed top looks nice though, I'd get it if it weren't so expensive, wasn't a signature, and had chrome or black hardware. So basically if it were a purple S.
i love it. the only thing i don't like is how the single-coil looks in there: it looks something superfluous, kind of glued in there. but i love the rest, the grip, the colors, the matched headstock, the trem, everything. i think i'd just put golden DiMarzios in there. probably the single-coil would look better in gold.
about the uselessness of the grip, sure, it is, but that doesn't mean it's lame. what means "useful"? transparent finishes are useless too, so what? they're cool. the lion's claw is totally useless too, but who cares, it's cool anyway. so is the Kung-Fu grip.
