Hi,I have been playing the guitar for over 14years now (on and off) but I have never bought an Ibanez before for several reasons. I only have a 15-year-old korean made guitar brand "Phil-pro" (I guessed it was a RG 570 replica) and I like it a lot.

But, I think this is the time to buy myself the real Ibanez! This courage was actually inspired by accidentally crossing by a music store with their RG 550 and RG570 hanged on their wall! I asked the store guy and he said that Ibby japan brought out these monsters back with a crazily low price.
So, I am really serious of getting this one but the store guy yesterday also showed me that they also have old stock RG655 (with a bit higher price: $200 more) and used RG 1570z ( $150 less) which successfully confuse me.

I am going to try them in near future before buying. But I am new to Ibanez and I think I have to go to this forum to ask you guys before.

I am now confuse between those three. I put RG 655 and used RG 1570Z into my consideration because their price are still in my budget range (not far from the genesis) but they each comes with a hardcase.

But I realize that RG 1570z comes with an edge zero and not the edge original tremolo? and sadly, I don't have any experience of buying a used gear.

And some people say that the genesis' pickup is not as good as RG 655's Dimarzios so it is not unusual to see people upgrade the RG 550's pickups?

Is that true?

I am trying to find a guitar with wide range of versatility. I mostly play Rock 80-90s and Megadeth, DT, etc but sometimes I also like to play some blues.

Please help me,guys. Thank you.

The RG655 is the best choice of the four guitars you mention, it's worth paying a bit extra for those pickups but even better if you can haggle on the price.

hello, Thanks for the reply. I was thinking the same thing. But, I just received sad news. They said that they ran out the RG 655 since yesterday . argggghhhh...!!!

They offered me RG 652 AHM NGB instead, which actually costs about $300 more expensive ($100 more than my budget) than the RG 550. So, do you think that RG 652 really worth that extra dollars?

My friend suggested me take the RG 550 if I am ok with the pickups because surely only few people has it and so, the reselling price would not drop because the production was limited to 2018.
That makes sense.

But in terms of quality, do you think they have many differences? Thanks

Haggle!
The 652 is better and will have superior resale value to the others, there are many rough edges on the reissues if the comments on here are to be believed and they're simply not as well made as the prestige line.

You're not getting the scope, it's not Genesis, if it's Fujigen [and not a JEM777] if it's got a maple fretboard it has no fret end finishing. All models. The GC's are not inferior, they're the same as a 652AHM.

I've got 655's left on closeout.

Hello, thank you for the quick reply. Seriously? I am shocked to hear that. The reviews on Youtube and sweetwater, etc. have always been so so positive and I haven't found any complaints at all. I guess I should pay attention to that issue when I try the genesis then.

Can someone in this forum who has tried or own the genesis please elaborate in this thread? Thank you

I've gone thru 20 of them, what do you want to know? The only different in a GC neck and a 652AHM is the AHM is birdseye and bound, the frets have no more treatment than a 550 does. Now a 570 has finishing as do all rosewood. Nothing on maple.

Hi,Rich. Thank you for eleaborating. Btw, I am sorry, I don't understand what you mean. So, the bad one was fujigen own products("FGN"), am I correct?

I wish I could, but I am not in America. I am in Indonesia actually. Yup, where they build their premiums. Even so, there is not much information about the factory here.

No shipping on rosewood, and too cheap a model to international anyway.

Every Prestige Ibanez in made by Fujigen.

oh ya, so, Chris, I just want to know your opinion: do you think other than esthetics and pickups, the genesis is just the same as the prestige 652?

If it is so and I could live with the pickups, I might prefer the genesis. Reason: I'll have some savings to get my pasifica 612 or schecter someday.

sorry, I am always late to give reply because of bad connection. Btw, yup, that is why I feel worse now:(

btw,I know that every Prestige is made by Fujigen. but I am sorry, I don't understand what you mean in your first post (besides saying that the GC is on par with the Prestige); you were saying something about Fujigen?

Go to richs site ibanezrules.com i bought used a 655 that came from him originally with the platinum setup (insane worth every penny and more playability is unheard of) i bought a factory second 652 from him (no setup) and was great and he had a unmarked second 550 yellow not long ago for $700? But i have the 655 and a new (used) 550 genesis and the 655 is better due to pups and his setup

hello, thanks for the support, guys. I wish I could buy from him but unfortunately, I am not in the US.

Btw, I just noticed that Rich who had been talking to me is actually "Rich" from Ibanezrules.com?
Sorry, I didn't realize that since I am new here. But man, Rich, I have been using your website tech setup for years to set up my "floyd rose licensed" guitar! (you know, when we didn't have many setup videos on youtube etc, in the early 2000s.). You ROCK,man!! Thank you for the website.
If it hadn't been for your web, I would have hated the floating bridge system a long time ago.
Sorry for asking more clarity with your sentence. I am not from US or any english speaking country. So my english is not that good haha.
Thanks for clarifying. I think I understand it better now.
so, If I am ok with pickup and I can't get the 655, I better get the RG 550? good idea?

hi,thx for the suggestion ,Afireinside7444. I really appreciate it (I love that yellow neon too!!!).. I am thinking almost the same thing because I just came back home from another shop which is far from my house but still has the 655!!! , and so, I tried them both of them mostly to compare their tone.

But I was quite surprised with what I found; I could get very nice tone coming out from 550 easily ,but I hardly able to get any good tone from Dimarzio of the 655, even after setting the EQ section on the amp. For me, the Dimarzios were just..I don't know how to explain it..too harsh? more dark sounding?more for modern metal? just ordinary?.. On the contrary, the RG 550 was just warmer, and more versatile.

Air norton, tone zone, and the RG 655's demos on youtube didn't convince me either. But strangely, I like the RG 550 demos.

Has anyone experience the same thing?
or Have I used the Dimarzios wrongly?

I am sorry for being like a crazy guy asking back and fort about this. But I have to go back to my first question here. Which one to take : the 655 because many people said dimarzios are better ,or should I just trust my ear and take the 550?
Thank you
