Just because I'm trying to focus playing 6 strings to a reasonably standard it does not mean I don't appreciate instruments with more or less strings than that.

Yes it is. The standard Ramirez 6 strings go for at least 5k.

...or if you want steel strings, you could always check out Tobias' guitar on this page. Let me tell you the brazilian rosewood on the back and sides on that guitar are simply ridiculous and the sound....well, DAMN! Note the fanned fretboard.

It's got five guitar strings and three bass strings.
