Hi guys,

Does anyone know of a European (preferably continental Europe, not the isles in case this doesn't get done before Brexit with import tariffs coming up) Ibanez private dealer that sets up guitars as well as Rich over at Ibanez Rules? I bought a JS guitar from him ten years ago when I was in the US and now feel the itch for something else like a JEM or a top line RG (or I'm full of GAS), but I'm in Europe! It saved me so much time and money from getting a fully inspected and professionally set up guitar that I'm not going anywhere near a "regular" music store ever again :)

Cheers

Hi Rich!

Yeah the dollar is low, but I'll get slammed with Dutch VAT (21%) plus import duties, plus excise, not counting transport costs and insurance. Yeah... it will be a hard sell, I can check some of your prices but it would be difficult to compete with a EU based service, I think!

PS: you most probably don't remember me, I bought a JS1000BP from you like in 2009... you shipped it to San Antonio!

Cheers

In short, no.

I've never come across anyone, anywhere that goes the full distance with a set up like Rich's. I've managed to get close myself using his guides, but that's more by luck than judgement and hours of tweaking, and those guitars I've done myself don't have the rounded fret ends that I'd request from Rich.

Frankly, I think that you either go into the transaction knowing that when you don't buy from Rich, it won't be as well set up as if you had bought it from Rich. Or, you buy from Rich.

Those are literally the two options available.

No, I'm not paid to say this, it's just his setups are better...

Hi Jono,

Thanks for the reply. Looks like if I buy here then I'll have to take delivery of the guitar and then find a reputable luthier to do the final touches. Another headache in itself. I'll go ask around for a good luthier near Maastricht...

Thanks!
