Right now im almost done with my based on a PII guitar project.

I realy need a nice piece of the highest grade of quilted KOA possible.
Im having a real struggle here in europe to get my hands on it.
In other words: its just not here!

Is there anybody who has got KOA for me,or knows a supplier.
All info will be verry much appriciated.

Thnx in advance!

Waiting for reply from lmi. hope they have the right size and thickness.

ya the only pieces i was thinking about were the hollow body back and side sets. Theyre like 4mm thick, so easily thick enough for a drop top, but if you need thicker... hmm... koa is a rare expensive wood:) From Hawaii I think!

Yes its from Hawai.
The problem is they cut it faster than it grows back.
(something people realize when its to late)

I need 8mm so twice the thickness they have.

Yeah i tought about that but due to the neckconstruction i have choosen this is not possible.

But!!!! great news!

my guitar luthier has gotten his hands on a nice thick piece of koa. 13mm thick!!
However its not big enough to make a bookmatched top out of it so its gonna be a 1 piece top.
Cant wait to see it and continue working on my guitar.
Ill put up pics when completed.

Thanx for your help!

(picture yourself this: a PII model with a clued in neck,a 2 piece swampash body verry light from collor and verry resonant,a thick koa top(about 10 mm), a 1 piece hardrock maple neck with rosewood board with caparison style headstock, tune-o-matic bridge, and a hum-single pickupconfiguration. maybe a stained or burst back in black blue or green and a natural top).

good news :)

Just curious, why did you decide to do a full koa top instead of a thinner top with a binding?

regardless, it should look amazing when done!

Im doing a full top pure tonewise and ofcourse i love the looks of koa.
To my experience a thinner top doesn't have a big enough influence on the overall sound.

Thanx dude!

cool! I dont really care about my woods TOO much. I prefer basswood and mahogany personally, but with all the different effects I like to use (reverb, delay, delay, distortion, wah, whammy, chorus is my chain at the moment), wood types dont really seem to matter TOO much for me ;).

On the other hand. I LOVVVVEEEE figured tops!!!!

Woods are the world to me!

My chain is guitar- amp,and thats it!
occasionally some effects but verry rarely.

Good tonewoods make my sound, and there's so much variatie its almost endless.
