Lucky? I kind of feel that I got lucky on more than a few guitars. Especially as far as the Les Paul type guitars goes. And my Aria RS KnightWarrior as well.
I had to cycle through a few.. the first lawsuit era Gibson copy I got was an SG with wicked neck dive a plywood body and even after swapping out the old tuners for locking ones a stubborn refusal to stay in tune for more than a minute. So they're definitely hit and miss.

But the Les Paul I got for £350 is killer. A real thick slab maple top, really fast neck/low action and other than the bolt on neck and name on the headstock it looks every inch the vintage classic rock machine.

Absolutely nothing sounds as sweet. I've got a '68 goldtop Les Paul custom and a '86 Explorer custom shop. They're both mint closet queens rarely played. I have an '86 Ibanez pl2660 for sale on this site. It's another queen but needs assembly best offer for another month. After that I'll keep it and complete it for personal use. It's a neck thru Rhodes copy sustain 👹 that was put away in '87 and stripped naked to enhance the sustain even more. It's a unicorn #7 of 32 in Pearl 1st yr Edge tremelo. Don't delay this is the real deal

I have a 2010 gold top. I also own a 1987 Jem DY. Own a 1981 Destroyer in sunburst-flame maple. I also love the Les Paul for the great tool that it is. I like guitars, not brands. They all offer something and all suffer from quality control issues, some more than others. Do I like Gibson? Yes. And Fender lol

I recently purchased very my first Gibson Les Paul, a reasonably affordable 2021 HP4 Les Paul Studio Plus. My "Studio" has the same core construction as a $5000 "Custom" Les Paul (sharing the 490/498 pickup configuration) but none of the cosmetic "extras" (other than the Plus AA maple cap). For example, my Studio has (1.) A silk screen logo, instead of Mother of Pearl. (2.) No ornate neck or body binding. (3.) Acrylic Trapaziod fingerboard inlays, instead of real Mother of Pearl inlays. (4.) A Dark Rosewood Fingerboard, instead of Ebony.

The first thing I did was upgrade the Studio PCB (electronic harness) with a Gibson High Performance "HP4" PCB (which gives me individual split/tap/coil reversal/phase, push-pull options). I also replaced the factory Grovers (with Locking Grovers). Next, I replaced the factory bridge and tail piece (with a TonePros Locking Roller bridge, and Tonepros Locking tailpiece). Then, I switched out the speed knobs for Gibson top-hat speed knobs, and switched out that plastic factory poker chip (with a chrome plated brass, hand painted enameled one). Finally, I picked up a nice Gator Flight Case. Total investment just under $1800. It's a truly great guitar, weighs less than 8 lbs, and it sounds amazing through my Marshall.

As of this weekend, I have an SG Standard, and an LP Tribute, and I bought a couple of EPI 1959 Les Pauls.

These. 59 Epi 59 LP Standard both came with cases, Burst Bucker pups, CTS pots, switch craft jack and switch.

These Epi’s Sound great, and with high gain on my Mesa, sound tighter with power chords.

And at 850 bucks each, the Gibson LP Standard costs what 3 of these Epi 59s cost.

I have a love-hate relationship with Gibson solid bodies. I still own my 58 reissue Les Paul, but it’s the only one I’ve held onto it. Their hollows and semi-hollows I consistently love.

I’ve got a rebuilt 68 335 and 64 330 that are pretty dead to me…but I attribute my live for the body shape to me watching “Back To The Future” too many times.
