noticed that PO changed strap buttons
originals are in case with original screws
I want to put the originals back but dont want to ream out the holes

hoping he didnt cut new or bigger threads when he put the other screws in

They're called strap buttons.
I've had them come loose before.
Just unscrew them.
Put a wooden toothpick and some wood filler in the hole. Let it dry. Then screw back in. You should have a tight fit that will hold. Other home remedies may be available.

Drill and fill with a dowel, then drill again.
