Since I am thinking about jumping on the Ibanez train again after a long time, I wanted to hear your experiences on the Japanese Prestige series

I was the owner of two RG 3120s in the color Twighlight Blue for many years. Very nice guitars, great build quality, nice woods and overall just a round thing and excellent work animals which in addition also looked great. Now last week I had a RG 3727 in my hand, which, according to my information already belongs to the top prestige guitars these days. The overall build quality was also knotless, at first glance, hardly any difference (except the 7th string;)) to my then RG 3120th At second glance I was pretty disappointed that here are no solid wood tops used and after I saw the price I was completely disappointed on the whole package. 2000, - EUR (approx. 2300 USD) for a simple RG guitar, a simple veneer, that is far beyond my personal pain threshold I would be willing to pay.

What do you think about that? Is the current Prestige series just a disappointing copy of earlier days? What are the current used prices for a prestige guitar?

Thank you all for your opinion!

I think you should look for a second hand guitar that meets your needs, $1k will get you a good one that just needs a thorough clean and setting up to suit your playstyle.

They're having a laugh with these 3727's. you could buy an 8527z JC for 500 more [here, maybe not there].

Unfortunately you're not going to get a real top under J Custom currently. If you want pretty wood it's going to be 1mm. If you're looking for 7 strings there are very few new, 6 strings you have a good selection $1000-$1500. Used is always good value after the first guy that wants new takes the depreciation. I bought my car for 1/2 price with 5700 miles.
