Hi all! I've just bought my first ibanez rg prestige today. It needed a really good thorough clean up, but its turned out really nice! I gave it a full setup and I think it would play well if it wasnt for the bridge pickup being so high. Has anyone ever seen this sort of thing before? And what could I do to fix it?I'm wondering if ive done something wrong fix whilst setting it up.

I found out that the bridge pickup was changed to a dimarzio d-sonic. There is a tone zone in the neck.

Cheers all!

To me it looks like the ears of the pocket aren't routed deep enough - if any.

Unmount the pickup and inspect the bridge pocket. If the ears aren't set deeper you might have to route them deeper approx. 5 mm.

Not sure about the stk pickups in your 1570 built I'm pretty sure the stk IBZ pickups I pulled from my RG770 ,that are direct mount, had shorter ears that the EVOs I put in.

Beautiful paintwork, nice axe!

Agree with the previous comments, pull the pickup and check the clearance underneath, something odd there.

I have unscrewed the pickups to see in the cavity. To me it looks like everything seems fine. The pickup in the neck is fine and I believe the cavities are the same depth. So it does honestly look like the ceramic magnet in the bridge pickup is making it taller than normal. Apparently this is s common occurrence with dimarzio ceramic pickups.

There is a tone zone in the neck, so im going to pop that into the bridge cavity and I'm ordering an air Norton for the neck cavity. Hopefully this will solve the problem.

The cavity needs to be recessed. The pickup should fit then. I had that pickup in one of my axes with no problem at all.

Man, that is Beautiful. I had the Rusty Red one. I loved it. though it was indeed stolen from my mothers home. I would say that regardless of the stack thickness that bridge pickup is way up to high. I think the ceramic pickup might be wrong for that guitar. did you find out of the Air Norton Fit well? keep us updated here is a photo of my guitars pickup height.

Wait... you took custom built USA dimarzio pickups OUT of your rg770? Those are why most folks used to buy the rg770. Unless maybe yours weren't USA dimarzio pickups??

I used that guitar to have a swirl done yrs ago by the late/great herc fede and put a set of green evos in it. I still have the stk rg770 pickups and they are absolutely the stk ibz usa pickups ;)

zoom in the 2nd pic in my group shot pic in the post to see it ( I still need to get a green cover for the middle pickup....lol)
....and no the donnie's are not real .The one next to the swirl was done by herc as well.
