HI!!
Just got this Made in Japan RG550 from 2002 and would like to know the name of the color. It is a kind og green metallic?!? Could not find it in the Ibanez catalogues of 2002... Thanks.
The serial is: F0218404
Your guitar was made at the
Fuji-gen Plant, Japan
in 2002
Production Number: 18404
Loosen the strings and take the neck off so you can see what the stamps says. The 550s have an edge or a lo-pro edge tremolo and a recessed output jack.
Here we go, photos under the neck. It says RG-250B-01 with date 2002-4-25 on the body and on the neck RG-250B-01 Now I assume it is not an RG-550? Because I purcased it as a 550 but this guy selling it (an older guy in pension) he said that was a RG550. I still did not pay for it and can return it.
(Sorry if I am asking easy questions as I am new to Ibanez world, ask me anything on Gibsons and Fender and I am really an expert there). The problem is that I got very addicted after I got an RG1570 2002 and a RG1570 2003...)
That's not an edge/lo pro. It's ibanez branded, meaning it'll probably be a lo trs or something of that nature, meaning it's not a 550 but probably an MIJ 450.
You should not keep it unless you're going to pay for it, the guy's a pensioner and probably needs the cash.
It is NOT an RG550 and is not worth much since it has TRS101 trem and V6 pickups although it is in very nice condition.
Since the RG250B was only available 1995-96 there is some ambiguity here and I suspect it's a parts bin special for the Japanese domestic market only, possibly a spot model.
Personally I wouldn't pay more than 150 Euros for it but you should make your own mind up if you like it.
Yes in the meantime doing research I also found a mismatch as the RG250 was produced:1995-1996 in Finish(es): BK (Black) / BN (Blue Night) thus cannot be a 2002 model....thus not found in any Ibanez catalogue. Strange enought if you search on eBay one find Rg250B "Brand New" from an Australian dealer?!? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ibanez-RG2...322328&hash=item5d806c7fd1:g:kJsAAOSw-0RbHy4A
Yeah, now that sepulchrave mention the spot model, i made a quick search on the 250b and I saw an ad in Brazil saying something about Japan, thought it was kind of a scam but...
But that is a Gio made in China(?) and your RG250b has a serial number, starts with F of Fujigen made in Japan although it should be from 2001 ex F01.....
Got more info via the italian Ibanez group (Facebook). One of the guys has a rather large collection of Ibanez and he has one like mine but in Silver Sand color. He modded it quite nicely by the way. These are guitars Ibanez produced in 2002 to empty their storage of all sort of components(already mentioned in here and other forums I have read), necks and bodies in particular the TRS TREM. That is why they never bothered to publish it in any 2002 catalog but distributed them amongs they Ibanez dealers around the World, for sure in the UK (mine) and in Italy. Here is the link of another RG250B located in Italy ibanez87.it \ galleria \ modelli \ RG \ RG250BSS - Tommy
BTW the guitar on your post was modded by the guys from FaGo-CablePro in Milan.
