hi, i am new to this forum, I am an owner of a RG550 serpent and i was wandering if anybody had any information on it? from what i can gather it is a 1992 Fuji-gen Plant, Japan. reading on the internet it seems to be very rare and there isn't much info on it, some people say only 100 made and some people say a lot less than 100 were made. It seems that it was a prototype and there wasn't many made due to not the demand for expensive guitars in the early 90's (or so i have read) but if anybody has any info at all it would be really appreciated. I would love to know how many was actually made?, what market there were made for? (were they shipped world wide or only to uk?), dose anybody have any marketing documents on them?

any information would be great.

unfortunatly i cant post a photo as it is my 1st post

In the UK they were marketed as being a run that were exclusive to the store 'Musical Exchanges' they were basically an RG550DX with fancy decoration on the fretboard, but basically arrived in stores around the same time as britpop, which meant they were the epitome of what wasn't going to sell in the UK at that time.

I understand that they were in fact picked up by various distributors around Europe but didn't make it further than that.

Hey Jono, the RG550DX was never made in that color..

And I don't get how the japan market only RG5000SG (SG = Serpent Green?) which is whats closest to the RG Serpent in color, would make it as a Limited Edition guitar to UK stores..

hi, I am from Manchester England, unfortunately I sold the serpent ibanez a while back now, I traded it for a Gibson gold top but to be honest I wished I had held on to it. I haven't seen another one since
