It's too bad if it's true. There's still some potential in the Genesis line to bring back classic models. I know they did a limited reissue of them, but seeing the RG770DX again would have been cool, only with the TZ/TV/AN pickup combo Japan got. And the violet metallic one should have been added to that. And it was insane that the RG570 only got boring colors like black and jewel blue. Add lipstick red to that or DY?

OR...

Here's an idea. Reissue classic models as Premiums like they did with the Jem and Universe. Make Premium versions of the RG550, RG570, RG520, or even the PGM500 and PGM301. I would have bought the PGM80P if it were 24 fret. Just ideas...

So Fowleri, where did you get the information that the Genesis line was going bye bye? I sure hope that is BS because I want to get a Genesis RG 550 in red, but want to wait until next year. I am sure that Rich will let us know if they were to discontinue something like that.

I am currently at 29 guitars, but 4 are going bye bye at Christmas time. So, I need to slow down for the rest of the year. Christmas shopping is all done. But there are still a few more guitars that I want. And my wife bought me two Epiphones for XMAS. I Just won’t be able to swing any more guitars for another couple of months. Hope the RG550’s,stay around. They are a lot of bang for the buck.

Well, the USA and EU Ibanez sites still list the Genesis 🤷‍♀️. All is just speculation/gossip till official information is released. In a lot of places they've been out of stock for months; in Europe, at any rate, Thomann is due to receive some again over the next month or so.

Regardless of what happens, we can be assured that there will more or less always be some kind of pickguard-loaded HSH RG with an Edge in the line-up (as there has been since 1987), which is a 550, regardless of what postcode suffix they append to it.

My understanding is that the J-Line is only for the Japanese market (?). It seems to be only possible to get one if the particular shop/dealer offers international shipping, like Ishibashi or TC Gakki.

Looks like Fowleri might have been right after all! First time for everything I suppose ;)

Interesting that the J-Line is there with just a single model, there’s at least one more that’s on sale and I wonder if that line might expand to fill the price point the Genesis range sat at?
Japan doesn't get half of the prestige rgs that the US gets. Also, there are models available/ not available in japan than elsewhere.

Even if the "genesis" line goes bye bye, the rg550, or an rg550 like guitar with a different number will take its place.

This only matters to those that are concerned with resale value or the perceived rarity of their current guitar.

For those of us that do not care about the model number and product line, we'll go on spec vs semantic.

Oooooo, look at that!!!!!!!

A limited run product in the genesis line?

The whole genesis line was created for this purpose.

Then you add the most oddball pickup config to that, its no wonder they are being cancelled.

You probably want credit for predicting the sunrise too.

Besides fowleri, your statement was that the genesis line is being cancelled. Your "email reply" states that it MAY just be the 565. Ibanez usa doenst even have definitive proof. You do know they are sitting around with their thumbs up their asses, waiting for last years guitars? As rich has said before, nobody knows what ibanez is doing next year. Nor do they know the pricing, or even when they will be getting guitars.

So, you get an incredibly vague email from a distributor that knows only a little more than you do, and somehow this becomes gospel and you are vindicated?

At this rate. There won't be many rg565 reissues out until early 2022.

Much like any other product line, the models ebb and flow each year. Somtimes there are 6 premuin rgs, sometimes 2.

Sometimes there are rga j customs. Sometimes not.

Most companies will continue producing items that are in demand too.

The only people that really know whats up are ibanez japan. Everyone else wont know anything until namm.

Why buy a Prestige when you can get a Genesis?
AANJ neck joint and rosewood/ebony fretboard are two good reasons why some people (myself included) would choose Prestige over Genesis. The Prestige line also offers far more options for finishes, pickups (some people like the RG550 stock pups, but I'd definitely be swapping them out), plus various other specs.

I see where you're coming from, as all of the current Prestige finish options look very modern. I own four Prestige RGs, but all look more like a classic RG (RG655, RG652 & 2x RG2550Z).
I guess it wouldn't make sense for the Prestige range to match the Genesis finish options - otherwise one of the two becomes obsolete. The RG655 Prestige was essentially replaced by the the RG550 Genesis in 2017.

It's probably not a coincidence that Ibanez has focused on mahogany bodies, ebony fretboards and offering a selection of "better" pickups for the Prestige line, ever since the Genesis line was released. The Prestige price jumped up, but so did the specs. Even though most existing Ibanez customers were happy with basswood, it's clear from other guitar forums that plenty of people had been opting for rival brands for mahogany bodies.

Designs? The rg prestige and genesis line have literally the same design, but different options.

The s series would be an example of a different design

Mahogany RGs are something special.

My rg520qs is still my best playing guitar after 22 years and no work done to it, ever.

It is also one of those unicorn guitars. I have never had a pickup sound bad in it. Sure, some sound better than others, but they always sound better in the 520.

I prefer finished maple, is more durable literally indestructible, no treatment, easy to clean, the clearcoat can be reapplied but is very unlikely that is needed as polyurethane clear just like the paint can last forever

and more importantly, doesn't have a smell as natural unfinished wood tends to have tho ebony fretboard have very little scent if at all but is not as durable

if i were to get something better than genesis would have to be a j custom i do like their colors more than prestige

the look is very important to me as much as these upgrades the prestiges have i dont like their colors i have yet to see a prestige that i say wow what a beautiful guitar i would spend $1500

So, what I said became true after all, yet all the people who called me delusional, that Ibanez would never reveal in an email their plans, etc

suddenly they vanished
They're still showing on the Ibanez website, so I'm not sure where they have supposedly vanished from.
