I've owned a 1990s (Korean i think) js100,
Played my friend's more recent 2005ish js100. Now own a js1000 and have played a js1600
Older js100 felt quite different to me. Worse. More recent one closer to the js 1000. Similar radius on all and fret size.
Fret end treatment and overall finish notably better on js1000 & js1600. Feels more comfortable.
I think they're all similar. Profile wise.
I'm guessing that the difference with the two js100s, old and recent might just have been the variation in quality control on cheaper instruments. I don't think they've ever changed the shape or profile but others here may know better.
Js 1000 just clearly better made. Love the necks on these, really comfortable. If you're choosing between the twoget the 1000 if you can.
That's just it, i sort of don't have an option readily available. I've been looking for a js neck forever now. And i found one, but it's a 100 Korean made. The neck is $190 shipped, frets look essentially new.
I can buy an entire js100 Indonesian version with no pickups for $230 and it's in great shape. I have a js100 body but it's in rough shape. I was going to refurbish it with a custom color... and a gotoh floyd.
I own a 540R that has a 540s neck on it. I am not a fan of the 17" radius on the S neck... but it is a fujigen neck, and i can only assume the quality is going to be noticeably less on the js100 neck. I own a js24p and love it. But again, thats a semi high end instrument. So i am hesitant to buy.

I had a 540S and I have a 540R. I ****ing hated the wizard neck of the S. It's flat, the JS or radius neck is much rounder. Even though the quality is better as a fujigen that might not be the kind of neck you want. I prefered my JS100 neck to my fujigen S. Then I got a JS1200 and I never played the JS100 again.
I have a custom neck for then 540r that i ordered. Can't wait to get the thing. I bought the S neck assuming i wouldn't hate it. I borrowed a Japanese rg about 15 years ago and i didn't remember hating it. Well i do hahaha. So i guess i have some thinking to do.
I'd recommend waiting/saving for a JS1000. I've been watching them over the past year on Reverb and it's not uncommon to find one in the $500-$700 range (not too far from JS100s); they will typically be worn, but with a little work can be made close to new. In fact, this is exactly what I did recently -- bought one for $500 that was in overall good shape, but had some chunks missing in the finish. I refinished it in "Muscle Car Purple" like the JS2450 and added chrome hardware, turned out pretty good!
The nice thing about getting a JS1000 is having the neck and a solid trem (mine had the original Edge). Hope that helps!
i have no real itch for a 1000 specificly. Plus most 1000's don't an edge trem. I'd rather have a gotoh floyd than what most js1000's have on them. I'd rather try to find a nice price on a 1200 if i were to spend a bit on a used js. I have a js100 body and i want a neck for a 1000 because the shape and radius is the way my js24p is... but i may have to settle for a custom neck with no ibanez headstock. Thanks for your input though 😃
Waiting for a cheap JS1000 is what i did too. Got a BTB for £600 delivered in great condition but with a horrible set up. 3 weeks of patient truss rod tweaking and trem adjusting later it's now a phenomenal guitar.
I get that isn't what you need. Although parting out the body and pickups etc and flipping them again on the bay might leave you with a JS1000 neck at a decent net price.
This is where fender players have it so much better than ibanez. 10 mins online and you can find a spare strat neck in any radius, board, finish combo you could imagine. I guess the same demand isn't there with the JS which is decidedly more niche
Never thought of it that way. I did wind up buying a js100 a couple days ago, only missing a bridge and pickups. Its in excellent condition. I may just slap some dimarzios in it after wetsanding and buffing the body... put a gotoh on it then sell it.
Does anyone know if an edge trem will fit in a js1000 that comes with what ever the bridge that comes with it? I know the later 1000's had an edge trem, but those are hard to find.
