I recently read a review of the Riff Tracker in Guitarist Magazine.

I fancy getting one to mess around with at home - the question is are they are really any good?

Do anybody have any first hand experience or suggest any other low cost alternatives for a bit of very amateur home PC recording.

Thanks

You might want to go to the Line 6 web site and go to the forums. There's quite a bit of discussion about RiffTracker there. In the GuitarPort forum, it seemed like those that bought Rifftracker were not reall happy with it. I guess it didn't add much to what they already had with GuitarPort.

So far, I've found that GuitarPort with Audacity (free recording software) serves me well. The GP has some great tones, and in Audacity you can specify the GP as your input device, and away you go. That's pretty much a complete guitar recording package for $99 (less if you buy a used GuitarPort). That's pretty hard to beat.
