Hi,

I got a used guitar a while ago and I'm having problems with the locking nut. It has a kahler set up so it has the traditional nut combined with a flip lock nut. I've posted a picture below.
The problem is that no matter what I've tried the guitar will not hold tune for very long. I've heard that the locking nut behind traditional nut isn't so great, is that true?
I was thinking of doing away with both and fitting a floyd rose style locking nut. It would require some work but I'm ok with that.

Would that be a better more stable option?

Those Kahler flip lock nuts are junk, you'd be better off fitting locking tuners or converting the flip lock to allen bolts, fitting a Floyd nut will be more work but will perform the best.

Thanks for your reply sepulchrave. Yep it seems like a pretty odd design, not sure how they expected it to clamp the stings properly!

Do you think an Allen bolt version in conjunction with a Graphtec nut would be as good as the Floyd type?

You don't even need the Graphtech nut, just lube the existing nut and it'll work just fine.

Cheers, I'll get the Allen bolt string lock ordered, lube the nut and hopefully that will solve the problem!
