Hello, I'm not sure if this is the right location for this if not feel free to move it, anyway... I am wanting to move away from Ibanez models with full floating trems. I just can't deal with the stress of changing strings and setting up the bridge any more. I've been playing with "floating" bridges for about 12 years now and I'm over it. I really love the more vintage bridge of the new AZ series, that price tag is just too much for me right now, especially when PRS seems to hit most of my wants in a guitar with the SE series for about half the price... But being an iby fan boy I really want my change to still be Ibanez. What other series(preferably RG-ish) have more synchronized style of trems I can look for?

Check out the RGV series, they're floating still but not floyd style.

Have you checked out any of the RGx21 series? I have a measly RG 321 & it suits my drop tuning needs just fine. Mine has the meh infinity pups in it. I think the 521s have quantum pups which are a step up. Pickup upgrade would be easy enough if needed.

I'm not trying to "dig" at you, but I just can't believe how many people talk about floating trems being "stressful". I'm guess I'm more old school and "older" so to me changing strings on a floating trem isn't that stressful. I mean fighting over seas for my country, that was a bit stressful, working in law enforcement yeah that got stressful, being married w/ 4 kids all daughters and 3 grandkids yeah that gets stressful, but changing strings and tuning up on a floating trem..Not that stressful. Ha. I mean I change strings once every 2-3 months depending sometimes 3-4 months, so one time out that isn't that stressful and after that amount of time, and the strings are off anyway, it gives me a chance to really clean up the guitar, the neck/frets. I enjoy that stuff. for me tinkering on that is a stress reliever. It gives me a chance to make sure the frets are polished, the fretboard is treated, the trem is cleaned up no "pick dust" etc, make sure the springs are still good and then restring and tune and then lock it in. I guess I'm one of the few that enjoys that stuff and again if it's done right it strings should last you 2-3 months easy even longer and again if it's set up right and done right it should stay in tune.

I think it's indicative of how society has changed. Baby boomers & older worked on cars & did wood shop, metal shop, & whatever shop we could get, starting in Jr high. Did my first engine swap @ 16. Now it's all about confuzers & smart phones. I believe a larger & larger part of succeeding generations has lot mechanical inclinations of any sort. With it has been the loss of intuitive problem solving. There's my social rant for the day.

I have been playing almost 20 years and have started moving away from floating trems too. I hardly actually use it. For years i wouldn't buy a guitar unless it had a floyd.

Now i like how fast it is to change strings on a fixed bridge and changing turnings whenever i want. What is the point of the extra work if i am not going to actually use it?

for the money a used Ibanez rg2ex2 is actually really nice. you an get them for 200 and under in excellent shape. I also recommend the rgv line and the sv line are good. If you don't want to spend that much there a number of other fixed and vintage style bridges to had on various other ibanez models.

Oh no doubt. If you're not going to use it, why go through the bother. The issue we were discussing is why people get so stressed about it. I can do just a straight forward string replacement almost as fast on a Floyd as a fixed.
