Not the best picture to really see the red. So are you saying you want to do a translucent red finish? Candy paint typically gets darker the more coats you lay down. A candy coat is a silver base coat with a translucent color over it. So in theory it can also be used over a wood grain to get you that translucent look. Though if you do that you'll definitely have to remove the oringal finish completely off down to bare wood. I actually just did this last month to a 540 radius. It's not too bad of a process. But given that it was a solid color body they are typically 2 to 3 peice bodies. Which isn't very pretty because they are not normally symmetrical.
