They are reporting he wasn't breathing when the ambulances got there, but you never know with his publicity machine...

O.K. ask yourself this question, what do you think about when you hear the name Pete Townsend, great music, guitar ect. or was caught with child porn on his computer?
Everytime I see him now all I think about is the latter. It's definetly a stigma that glosses over everything else!!

Yes, you are right..the stigma does come to mind.

But in all honesty I think of both his bitching guitar tone that I saw on a Mick Jagger documentary (was shocked at how good he can make that red strat of his sound!) and the fact that there was an allegation.

The good and bad co-exist for me. The 2 do not cancel each other out for me, I'm sorry.

A bitching guitar tone is a bitching guitar tone whether you smack your women up or whether you are a perfect gentleman.
That's the word we should have been looking for "allegation." We should stick to what we know is true and let the rest go, he is dealing with that wherever he is now, anyway. Also it's sad how dismissive and and ignorant some of the younger musicians on this forum can be sometimes. Some greatness did exist before we were here to see it.

Pete wasn't caught with child porn on his computer. He was arrested for visiting a website with child porn pics on it. He had signed up for a porn website that had pedophilic content, and turned himself into the police and newspapers when the police said they would be making a big arrest the next day. According to Pete at the time, he was writing a book or something about his own molestation as a child, and wanted to show the world that these porn sites could only operate at all because they were allowed to accept credit cards and charge them (which is true; banks keep a lot of these places afloat). So, whatever you think of his story or orientation, he wasn't 'caught with pictures', that was Gary Glitter ;)

The irony is that I am against bigotry and hypocrisy.
Most people are. But everybody is guilty of them. Best not to let it worry you.

I also don't think anybody has been dismissive or ignorant. Some of us are just saying that we find child molestion to be disgusting (in my case the single most disgusting act there is) and that a child molester should not be honoured after his death, regardless of what other greatness he may have achived in his lifetime.

Others, such as Batchimp, are more forgiving. I wouldn't say any of us are right or wrong just a difference of beliefs.

Thank you, axehappy.

'Forgiving' is not the right word as I would not be able to forgive child molestation no would I tolerate it any more than you would.

(I must state that I am undecided of the guilt of MJ, so I reserve judgement on that for the moment)

I prefer to think of my point of view as 'seeing the bigger picture.' I hope anyway.
Statements like He was part of a couple of catchy albums back in the 80's that happened to sell a lot are not only inaccurate but not thoroughly thought out.
Thanks for setting me straight, LOL. Now enlighten me so I can know all about the music business that you do.
I'm pretty sure all that there is to say on this has been said.

Good discussion guys, 12 pages is no small feat for such an inflammatory topic.
