Although Ibanez is often wildly inconsistent and contradictory, their model numbers do mean something and it relates to features. Although this isn't the first time there's been a 5000 Series RG, they're using that to designate some higher end features, in this case stainless frets and/or Fishman pickups. SMAP is $100 lower on the 7. So it isn't a mistake in the sense that they've at least been consistent with nomenclature.
But I do take your point. Why not offer that guitar as an RG5027XL for $100 more with stainless frets? Seems like a kind of dumb miss there.
