Rack, head, or combo?
IMO, one of the most versatile amps out there is the Randall RM4 preamp coupled with the RT250 power amp... the RM4 allows you to use 4 different all-tube modules at a time, and the RT250 is loaded with EL34's and 6L6's and allows you to switch power tubes (and cabs, too) via MIDI.
Of course, Mesa's got some pretty versatile stuff as well... the Road King comes to mind, but the Mark IV is equally versatile with a completely different (more vintage) voicing.
