I'm after a multi track recorder which will record a decent amount. I want to record at least two tracks at a time with two mics at a time, both mics to be connected to an XLR, what can you reccomend? I like what I've seen from Boss, but not sure what to go for.

How many total tracks do you need? Does it need to be portable or run off batteries? Do you need lots of space (like a hard drive model), or smaller and no drive noise (like a flash media model)? Will tracks be flown into a CD mixdown, or is it for practice and songwriting? Does it need phantom power?

And the biggie - do you have a hard budget, or are you flexible?

I would go for a computer based set up. I think they end up cheaper and more expandable in the future. Try looking at the Toneport from Line6. It has two XLR inputs. That would be if I were on a budget. If not go for a full Pro Tools set up.
