I was messing around with the floral today and my cheapo setup. Tweaking for old school EVH-DLR Era tones, when he was using a plexi, I got some uber help through my some of my friend's gear :)

I don't own any condenser mics or interfaces, this was done using a cheap 13 dollar mic straight into my pc.

Check it out.

This is the KING of brown sound IMHO.

Check him out, the first time I heard his stuff, I swear I thought Eddie was back in the game. His tone is so close it's scary. He's got the whole EVH vibe down.

I found him on the gear page forum.

PLEASE GO CHECK HIM OUT!

The whole brown sound attempt thing was actually a little challenge by my friend. I got the tone from a cheap Peavey Rage 158 amp! With a little help from my friend's Johnson J-station as well. A trick the worked pretty well was dialing in a relatively "lower" gain setting. Then I set the mids and Hi's on the amp on full, bass turned all the way down. Without an eq pedal I tweaked all the browness I could with the help of the eq section on the J-station.

Apparently a lot of amp manufacturers right now, those boutique ones are going for the whole brown sound type vibe. Aiken and Splawn amps really kick ass.

But really pricey though.

Thank you for the very nice comments, I think the only time I draw a crowd in my country's music stores is when I play "Smells like teen spirit" ;)
