Any Donnie number is an educated guess, I'd guess closer to 60 than 80. The official number is 40 but that doesn't jive with the evidence, or, does it?

To sell a guitar back in the day typically dealer had to order it and put it on the wall, very very few did. Most of these were ordered by customers and they waited for it to come in. Chesbro still had a JS5 in inventory in 1996 they finally blew out at cost for lack of demand. Drum City bought it, Sammy Tran bought it from them for $2200. That's the one currently for sale at 25k [or whatever the price is now]

At the time the JS graphic was the most expensive guitar Ibanez sold in the US, same price as the GB100, whose comparable today would be the 300 at $6000. The GMC was only $100 less but a much more radical guitar and JEM's have always sold in much higher numbers than JS's.

A graphic JS costs twice as much as a JS1. They were expensive, you had to really really want one to cough up the bucks, and, they were always intended to be limited so both factors contribute to why they're so rare.
Yeah thats what i thought, and i know you have some them so they're even rarer, IMO these are some of the coolest guitars Ibanez has made.

Well for me personally.... I prefer that Raven painted mine to Carol Satriani.... not cause she isn't a great artist, but it mean more coming from Raven as he's a mate and I know it was meant for me as he was painting it. Im sure Joe loves having guitars painted by his sisters and Donnie Hunt cause he has a relationship with these people. I doubt Ill ever get to play a 2 3 4 or 5 let alone own 1.... Most are likely hidden away by collectors (no offence Rich! and I guess the player ones will remain safely in the hands of their owners. To be honest when they do pop up from time to time for sale they are way out of my league price-wise. I understand they are collectable, but to me its still just a JS with a fancy paint job, worth at best $1000 more than a current JS?....Then again Ive never been one who believe in paying $30,000 for something cause theres only 5 in the world. Ill take the boring white one, and a sharpie and make my own :) (However If I win the lottery cancel everything I just said...shopping spree is on!)

If they color matched the headstocks the white would be awesome. You can tell from the 1993 JS1s with the color matched, but they had that ugly middle pickup. The trick would be to buy a JS1 white with the middle pickup and white headstock, then get a JS1 or JS1000 with the right pickup configuration and then swap the necks.

I've always preferred the JS1000 in white. I know it's Chrome Boy on the cover, but for whatever reason that one makes me think of Crystal Planet. If I were ever to buy one (not likely - I already have a good "shred" six stringer, and medium frets aren't really my thing) that would be the one.

Great point! I don't think I could play something that collectible or limited in number. In those cases I'm glad the collector market exists. Those guys know best how to take care of and preserve those instruments.

I like the black headstock on the white 1000s. White looks ok, but I'd prefer it black. I'm also not sure if I like the JS1 with the single coil middle pup. Just doesn't look right to me. The single coil pup is also the reason I not keen on the new 2400s too and I'd also definitely change them to black pups if I bought one. White pups make it look like a toy or something.
