There was an actual JC model with a real top, this is not. Prestige with the veneer top.

Ooops, my bad, I should have confirmed before my bad memory took over! The serial number gives it away, I wish I had taken neck pocket pics.
The JC was a real 4mm Koa top though.

 

By the serial number gives it away, you mean the second stamped one? Like they put that on the ones that came out of the J Custom Shop?

 

Correct, the neck was, not sure about the body though.

 

If I pull the neck, is there a marking in the pocket I should look for?

Wow, that is a gorgeous guitar. If you decide that you can't get along with that neck, please let me know. I actually really like the Ultra. We could work out some kind of trade, sale, whatever. The veneer top wouldn't be a bother to me either.

That's a beauty! Congrats! ^ ^ Grey, black or white are neutral, or something with a muted color. That red is quite bright. To tell the truth I did not even notice it though until I read the above post. That wood grain and shine is what caught my attention.

 

HNGD! That thing is friggin beautiful! Great taste bro, luv it, super strat type guitar with an HH pickup config, floating trem, rosewood board, offset dots, killer top, something other than basswood body, etc...man that is a nice score, congrats!

Wow, I can't get over what a gorgeous guitar this is. I know you don't like that it's a veneer, but I really like the way they did the top on this. It looks like it's basically a plain maple top like most 2120's but with the koa veneer. I think it actually kind of works.

You've now my my wheels turning on what to do with my 2120X lol!

 

I love the koa and I don't mind a bit that its a thinner veneer than a "full top". Its a superb cut and grain, not sure where I may have suggested I didn't like it. My only complaint on the guitar is the neck profile and that's just because I prefer the original Wizard.

 

Unreal how nice this guitar is....... I never knew it existed. Killer score!!

Don't worry about the Ultra neck. You'll get used to it pretty quickly.......you may end up even preferring it. I did.....:grin:

I used to have one of these....bought from Rich a few years ago. Great guitar, just didn't like the neck shape.
