Well, here’s the story…I got a Gibson LP tribute model back around New Years. It is pretty basic. Clown Burst. I figured that I would replace the pups.

I also have 2x Epi 1959’s. I bought one 2 weeks ago. I liked it so much that I bought another. The Epi’s are killin it. Both have big necks.

The tribute LP has a big neck too. The Epi’s both have the new Camel Toe headstock. I think I am pretty set as far as LPs are concerned.

Any body else have a Les Paul from the “inspired by Gibson” Epiphones?
Maybe an obvious question – which is better in terms of overall build quality and setup, G or E?

It goes without saying that there are differences in materials and so on, but I'm interested in knowing how it's all put together and how they compare.

Well, the only Gibson LP that I had to compare the Epi’s to is my Gibson Tribute LP.

The Epiphone 59’s seem to be nicer than the Tribute I have now, in terms of fit and finish. The pickups in the Epi sound just as good as the Tribute.

But, the necks on the Epi’s are nice and fat.
I guess then if one does not care what it says on the headstock, Epiphone all day.

The Gibson is nice, but not too nice to take into a bar. The Epiphones are destined for the bars as well.

I didn’t really need two of them, but they sit in the hand better for me. They didn’t need any major, or minor repairs other than taping a few frets down.

Also the frets on the Epiphones are smaller and it plays better for me. Also, I like these Bust buckers.

I figured I should get them before Gibson raises their prices again.
Told you the 59 Epiphones were nice. Mine was a 2020 model and was a very nice guitar to play. I ended up selling it because I had several other LP's at the time.

I've had quite a few Epiphones and only one Gibson(Les Paul Studio) and as far as fit and finish they are close. The Gibson would win in terms to overall quality but it wasn't a slam dunk. Especially comparing the new 59's that Epiphone are making. The fact they are made with Gibson parts(pups and electronics) and have some extra time put into them really sets them apart.

Only other Epiphone I've had that came close to being as nice would have been my Epi Les Paul Custom(white I sold it, also have a black one and a black beauty still).

I just recently this week added a Epiphone Les Paul Custom Zakk Wylde Bullseye(2003 Korean) model. Plays very well after some serious TLC and setup.

I've had many Epi's. Customs, Studios, Standards but never got into the Prophecy guitars.

I haven’t tried a prophecy either, but with the Fishmans and the single volume and tone, I probably won’t. Especially since I can’t try one out before I buy.

I see they have a 58 explorer in Korina. With the same pickups and hard case. It is the first time I’ve seen an Epiphone that expensive, like 1300 dollars.
^^ Those ones have a special Gibson tax, seemingly .

I am going to get that Epi Korina explorer. The epis are the least expensive that I’ve seen as far as a Korina guitar goes.
Oh, and 1300.00 just doesn’t buy what it used to.
