Freakin' North Jersey! They got their coach, but the lost the Doc. I'll get some pics of Jagr as soon as the Flyers gather for camp. They staret practicing open to the public a week before camp opens, and last year my kids and I were among the only ones there. As much as I dislike the team, they have a great organization in regards to how they interact with their fans. Polar opposites of the 'no secret is to small to not be hidden from sight completely' Devils ;)

This is a pic of my son Seamus standing behing Billy Guerin at last year's pre- preseason camp. I want one at least this good with him and Jagr late August.

Just got a letter from Doc Emrick through the Devils...

To the marvelous fans of the New Jersey Devils:

A good friend advised me several years ago that before any major decision, you should look in the mirror and look at your birth certificate.

Since my contracts with MSG, VERSUS, and NBC all expired late this spring, this was another of those times. I discovered that the birth certificate couldn't be changed and it showed me to be 65 in a few days.

I've been extremely fortunate to have been able to spend 23 incredible years with the MSG Network channels and 21 equally enjoyable years--including 3 Stanley Cup championships--with the New Jersey Devils. However, considering the long-term significance of this decision, I was able to construct a lighter regular season-schedule and the usual complement of Stanley Cup Playoffs and Stanley Cup Final games for NBC and VERSUS.

But that assurance of less travel and fewer games has regrettably led me to end my association with the MSG Network channels and the Devils.

The people at both of these organizations have been incredibly loyal to me and have been very patient waiting until mid-summer for me to reach this decision. Both have also provided me only positive memories, support, and encouragement over these many seasons.

I wanted Devils fans to know of this news quickly after I reached the decision since their kindness to my wife Joyce and me on countless occasions brought us so much joy. Candidly, it has also left me with a sense of regret that I will not be continuing to call the team's games.

Words in prepared statements like these usually read very cold. Despite that, I hope you will sense how much I have enjoyed being around you and the team. This seemed the best way to get this news to you in the middle of the off-season.

I wish MSG Network and the Devils and Devils fans nothing but the greatest success in the years to come.

With Great Appreciation,

Doc

Not officially hockey related, but the Cubs signed Gretzky's kid. If there's any team I hate ore than the Canucks, it's the Cubs, but it damn close.

Wow, we're talking hockey already eh...I'm still a little sore about the whole Vancouver experience back in June...and it's not the game 7 loss that I'm most disappointed in...anyhoo, I guess it's time to move on.......wish we could move on from that Luongo contract we're stuck with...

Great pic Jim! Your son looks very engaged in the experience :)

btw - Elcid, you need to get over your Canucks hate-on... and calling Gretzky a hoser?!?!? That is just sooooo wrong on so many levels...

Even though his hockey heydays are well behind him, Owen Nolan isn’t ready to roll over and call it a career just yet. The grizzled vet is attempting to crack the NHL ranks one last time to prove that an old dog can still pack a mean bite.
The Vancouver Canucks signed the 39-year-old Nolan, along with 32-year-old enforcer Todd Fedoruk, to professional tryout contracts last Thursday in an apparent attempt to add some much needed experience to their line-up after failing to . . . well . . . you know.
Nolan stands out as the more intriguing of the two players as he brings along an impressive resume that includes five NHL All-Star selections and an Olympic gold medal from Salt Lake City in 2002.
Yeah, yeah, I know — Roberto Luongo has a gold medal too.
Whether Nolan will actually be able to make the team and get a contract with the Canucks remains to be seen, but given the injuries to Ryan Kesler and Mason Raymond, who are likely to miss at least the beginning of the upcoming season, it can’t hurt his chances.

F the canucks, the hate will be gone when they are mauled by a giant moose. I have to check with my Canadian bandmate again, I was sure he said someplace in Canada Gretzky was considered quite the hoser. I'll have to ask again

that actually made me laugh...its a little mean but funny at the same time... If the new Winnipeg team had called themselves the Moose and then acquired Carcillo then that might have actually gotten you closer to your giant moose mauling of the Canucks ;)

Speaking of which I am really digging the new Jets logo.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Winnipeg_Jets_2011.jpg
I didn't like the logo at first but it has grown on me, I think it will stand the test of time but they need to put some words around the inside of the blue circle. It looks too much like the Air Force logo. They should put in the words "Winnipeg Jets" or something.

I was reading an article the other day on cbc that Jets gear is outselling Flames gear IN Calgary. That's insane if you have ever been to Calgary before, they are nuts about their team.
