Noisy pickups/ RG550

The pickups in my RG550 are quite noisy. I have even shielded the cavity (maybe not the best job) and they're still noisy. I noticed this morning that when I walk over to my amp/cabinet it gets louder. So I guess other than finding a position on stage where I
mnot picking up any signals does any one have any suggestions on quieting things down?
