I recently got a JS1000 and its my main gigging guitar now due to its versatility. One thing I did to make it even more user friendly to me, was get rid of the push pull volume pot and put a true 500k CTS pot ( had to carefully drill body hole wider to fit new pots shaft though) and hardwire a 330pf silver mica cap on at all times) . Made a very noticeable improvement in full use of volume from 1- 10 ..stays crystal clear when you roll off. The original pot I removed was only measuring 440k max ..btw

Anyway,Im curious if anyone has done a recording with back to back comparison of Pups between PAF Joe / Paf Pro in the 1200 /1000?

I adore Joes neck pup tone...its very thick / articulate / nice hollow sound with great snap in the high end.....I can get the PAF Pro to sound really close to that ideal...but on all new recordings / even G3 ...seems like JS1200 has a touch more clarity / even more high end snap ...is it the PAFJoe or just how the guitars eqed / mic ed.

Seems like when he plays the 1000s they are a lil warmer or Im going crazy.

I had a PAF Joe in the neck position of a Gibson Les Paul Vintage Mahogany...but that guitar was just too warm no matter what I did..and it was sold .

Before I consider a pup swap ...just wondering what others feelings are between real life differences of these two pickups if any....do you guys who own both 1200/ 1000 feel they guitars can be eqed via amp setttings to have similar tone from neck pup?

Thanks for input.

Never used the PAF Pro but...

So far i am using DiMarzio Evo\Evo2 set in the JS1000 and keeping it that way. Zebra creme and black looks awesome and sounds what i believe to be better although the bridge pu in the 1000 is very good but wanted them to match. I dont think i can part with the coil tap.

I love the PAF Joe compared to the PAF pro. The PAF Joe is a little breathier, it has a quality that's hard to describe. It's definitely apparent on some of his later albums. Especially the sounds on the super colossal album. I have Js guitars with both combinations on them and I highly prefer the Joe

I'd say the sound is more "hollow" , tubular. It also feels amazing to play. Each nuance in technique seems to pick up in a more subtle way.

I've been using the Paf Pro in neck position on most of my guitars for the lastv 10 years but this Paf Joe has gotten the edge.

Highly recommended
