I recently scored an SZ4020 (neck-through, massive slab of mahogany with a very thick maple cap). I'm looking to upgrade the pickups. I play everything but country, so I'm looking for something that has a lot of diversity... passive, hot pups with a lot of articulation that clean up really well and sound good split too. I play through a H&K Tubemeister Deluxe 40 in to an Orange cab.
I was originally thinking of going with P-Rails with Triple Shot rings for maximum diversity, but the more I listen to them, the muddier they sound. Dimarzio's website keeps pointing me towards either Petrucci sets, but I already have a Crunch Lab/Liquifire set in my S770. My Cadzilla has a 59/JB combo in it. I don't really want them to sound too similar. I'm currently considering:
Gravity Storms
Dark Matter 2s
Whole Lotta Humbuckers
Slash Set
Anyone have experience with these in an SZ? I'm open to other suggestions too. TIA
