Hello all,
I want to replace the V7/V8 humbuckers in my Ibanez Egen8. I read the other post EGEN8 but I wanted to provide more detailed info for a better advice.
Specs:
Mahogony body/maple neck/rosewood fret
24 frets/25.5" scale
Edge III trem: floating
Strings: 10-52 (drop-D)
AMP:
VOX Valvetronix VT20+ (tube-hybrid modeling) 8" speaker
Music I play: I play all three types about the same amount
-Metal (from Metallica to 'nu-metal')
-Eric Clapton style blues (clean and overdriven)
-Very clean acoustic-like chording
Problem with stock:
Gets muddy with high gain amp models. Lacks lows (has no balls), and the highs sound really ugly, like playing thru a cheap car stereo. The amp isn't the best but I played with a better guitar and the problems go away.
What I want:
A well rounded bridge pickup for metal that makes my thin Ibanez S sound bigger, while getting clearer highs. Something like a JB, not an evolution. I like to palm mute and chug a lot.
A neck pickup that sounds good for clean open chords and blues. Also I need to sound very smooth and glassy when played with high gain. Something like a liquifier. (I like petrucci tone)
I'd like both pickups to clean up whent he volume is rolled down without losing much volume. Also I'd like to still be able to coil tap like the stocks.
Please give me suggestions for pickups that work best for the saber style ibanez.
Please no mods for stock pickups.
Thanks!
