Possible white JS1 purchase

#737, with JS logo, one big ding on top, no original case, no backplate.
He’s asking 2,200. Just because I possibly underpaid for the black one I recently bought I’m having a hard time coughing up 2,200. There’s like 5 black JS1 for 2,200-2,800 on reverb and none sell. I get that this one is white but what is a fair price for me and the guy?

I don’t wanna pay 2,200 but what’s fair, please?

Black is far more common, but also most desirable, at least to me. Reds are just rare, whites in the middle, somewhere. That one has a long lower bout rounding into the face, or the picture makes it look like it. Not unusual but not as pretty as well rounded bouts.

I was just wondering about a fair price. The market is interesting and weird. Jems sell for absolutely ridiculous prices -way over priced- (especially the FP77),where as the JS Series almost nobody seems to want/buy. JS900 for 770 doesn’t sell locally. I bought mine for 750. There’s about 6 JS1s white, red, black, HH and HSH on Reverb now, from all over the place, ranging from $2,200-5,000 of which none have sold. One early black JS1 is now reduced down to $2k and still doesn’t sell.

I’d like to own a couple more JS, but it’s futile to offer half of what some guy is asking even if his guitar has been for sale forever and clearly doesn’t sell. I’m spoiled now, because I paid 800 for my JS1, which is probably very little (but I don’t even know because who do you ask)

I’ve always wondered that as well, why the Vai guitars fetch more money than the Satch guitars

Maybe because they have holes in them? 😆

Jem sellers ask for ridiculous prices but as you say about the JS1s, they don’t sell. I’ve bought (and sold) a bunch of Jems in the last 18 months and neither paid nor sold for crazy prices.

2200 (not sure what currency) seems pretty high for that JS, lovely as it is.

Most of them are in Europe, euro is fairly close to the same amount in USD (hundred fifty or so more or less give or take). There’s a couple JS stateside too though. The one where I get a higher price is the inferno red once just cause they’re really rare. Yeah idk, I’d like to own one more as I said, but I’m not gonna cough up 2k+ because -apparently- they don’t sell for that, so…

Maybe I can strike another deal with one of the sellers, we’ll see. If not I’m pretty happy with my JS900 (where I just added the coil split) and my early JS1.

Far as the Jem insanity I really don’t get it. Based on what people actually pay for anything but rare floral my GMC would have to sell for 12k+ …. Which, if it does great, lemme know so I can get a step closer saving for my 61 Strat lol

I saw a nice looking white JS1000 for €1000 in Italy recently.
I don't know the subtle differences year to year on JS models.
2001 with cosmo hardware and Lo Pro.
Visually very similar to me but you'll know better.

I also saw a white JS1, also in Italy, for €1850 - maybe less if you strike a deal

I don't know either seller - these are just things I've seen in my daily searches.

They are all 1200-1400$ guitars. Including your lovely GMC, the florals, and the ‘61 strat. The rest of the price goes for “mojo”, “vintage”, “limited edition”, “rare”, “swirl”, “first run”, “low serial number”,… that is sad.

I bought my white 1990 JS1 for 500€ two years ago. Non original nut though. Was in good condition but some owner had carved some text in the back of the guitar. I painted the whole guitar metallic green then. Been playing a LOT with it. JS's are really nice. The only thing I do not like is the position of the pickup switch.

Anybody with pre 1994 JS's please post model and plate number. Still collecting them after 25 years.

I'm lucky I guess, I buy the "poor man's" JS1's, the R540/440's, found a FLAWLESS white 540R in Japan for like $700 a few months ago, closest I'll probably ever get to a JS1...works for me though, as I like the ultra neck better anyways :D

I’d like a 540:) I’m still puzzled by the amount of JS1 on reverb right now and none selling though. Tried talking to an Italian guy, who’s selling a white one but he ain’t budging on the price (even though his no JS label is cheaper than most out there a 1,850) Only a few people are willing to negotiate but only very little - even though they clearly don’t sell! Should be easier grrr

I guess I’m so lucky that I picked up by black one for 800… weird.
I got a 540R and I wasn't totally happy with it as a big JS enthusiast. It just is missing little details in shape and function that the JSs have.

I just read up in specs and details thanks for the motivation I always wanted to always forgot haha

well, luckily, JS are fairly easy to acquire
@Rich: J002616 - Mint (really) White JS-1 with the H/S/H pickup configuration. I think it’s a 1992 maybe?
