PSA - Wall hangers and guitars with pointy headstocks.

Keep an eye on them! A couple of weeks ago I noticed my old '89 Charvel Fusion Deluxe was slightly twisted in the wall hanger and thought "Wow... that was close! I need to be more careful hanging it up." Well, I walked into my guitar room a couple of days ago to find my precious Charvel on the floor! It did not suffer too much damage, just a ding on the backside and big scuff up the back that may rub out. It fell right on my wife's brand new Mikro bass, decapitating the volume knob and adding a quarter-sized ding, and then flipped onto my brand new Ibanez classical and adding a couple of nice marks on the side. I looked into what may have happened and noticed that when in the wall hanger it had a tendency to want to rotate or twist... so two weeks ago was my unheeded warning, only the allen wrench holder on the back of the headstock kept it from falling that day... BARELY, but I thought I had just carelessly hung it. Should have known I woud never "carelessly" hang that guitar!

Just a Public Service Announcement for all the pointy headstock guitar lovers out there!

Genuinely sorry to hear that man (n)

Ive never personally wall mounted anything heavier than an acoustic, ive seen guys on Youtube who have a whole wall of guitars behind them and even that causes me to hyperventilate.

Hope you can sort out any flaws caused by the accident, just use the wife's bass as an excuse to try swirl paint :p

I like your attitude! Ha ha... The bass should play ok once I replace the volume pot, though it did damage the wood where the pot mounts. I think I can find a good sticker to put over the damaged spot... lol.

I went through the Charvel, re-leveled the trem, etc, and it seems ok... Knock on wood!

I like to try keep the glass half full sir :p

Im sure one of Vai's guitars was glued back together three times so hopefully the Charvel survives, failing that you can always mark it up as mojo ;)

I have one guitar on a wall hanger. It is an acoustic, with 3x3 theadstock. Thanks for the PSA. I won’t try my electrics on it now, although I have in the past.
Hmm I was just looking at wall hangers for my RG570 and new (to me) 540RHH, may be reconsidering that now. Thanks for the warning!

What brand/model wall hangers were you using?
I have been using these for years with no issues (apart from a screw putting out of the wall, but that was due to a hidden crap repair in that bit of wall): Hercules Stands - GSP38WB PLUS

Same here. These are worth the extra bit of cash. The grip mechanism really does work. I've got 3.

I think this is the brand, although it looks like they have added a couple of "keeper rings"... Mine were purchased a few years ago and did not have them. I'll doube check the brand when I get home later.

I cant vouch for Hercules wall hangers but i did previously own one of their 3-point floor standers and its a genuinely good product.

I currently have my guitar on a cheapo 3-point floor stand and im worried that its gonna fall off that nevermind being wall mounted

I do like them. And the lock is great to stop them being knocked of the hanger.

I could use the locking feature... My youngest grandkids (ages 2 & 4) like my guitars and have occasionally reached up at them. We keep the "guitar room" door shut when they are over, but I would hate for a guitar to fall on a little one if they snuck in there!
Damn man, sorry to hear about that. If definitely makes me cringe thinking about because I have 7 currently hanging and I am hanging another 2 this weekend 😅

I just got a set of three of those on “Pay it Forward” thread at another forum. I have one guitar up on the wall, above my TV. It’s an fbanez AE405TV, and weighs about 4 pounds. The hangar is mounted in a Stud.

I have one more space left in my rack, then I will have to hang a couple on the wall, or use individual stands. So far, I have 17 in the rack and two more that aren’t.

I use the same hangers as
but mine are mounted on the rails of an old hardwood CD rack. Screwed the rails into studs.
Never had a problem.
