Stainless is more of a tone/feel decision than a longevity decision IMO. In other words, if I didn't want the tone and feel of stainless frets (for my own personal guitars) the durability would never convince me to use them. They're much harder to work with, so conversely, if I did want that tone and feel I'd put up with all the tooling and labor excess to have them. Regardless of what you do, you should read up and search forums on SS frets to get an idea of what's being said out there. There're crazy nuts on both sides, including avid "vintologists" who say you have to find the exact alloy mix Leo Fender used, (and then "age" it) and others saying that anything that isn't stainless is crap.
