hey guys

it's my first post in this forum so go easy on me :)

I have the opportunity to get a replacement neck for my guitar and I can choose the fretboard between ebony and roasted maple.
I know how ebony feels and I like that it doesn't stick to my fingertips when I'm bending.

Should I expect a similar feel to roasted maple? I've played an Ibanez RG 652 with maple board, but that one had a poly satin finish, which I felt somewhat grabby. Rosewood feels fine to me.

Thanks

It's the finish that makes it feel that way. Rosewood boards are not typically painted/cleared with any finish. A bare maple fingerboard feels great, the grain is nice and tight too so it's smoother feeling than rosewood. I've never played a roasted maple neck or fingerboard, I would imagine it's more of an aesthetic than a feel, unless it's is not covered with any finish. But even then they do rub the neck with oil and it's an oil finish. I prefer an oil finish. Sticky finishes are definitely not my cup of tea either.
