He also owns several restaurants (the “Fat Satriani Burger” chain) in Washington, a Football Team (the “Westbury Angels”), has launched his own brand of Vodka (Pure Wondersatriani - US), and is tackling the juniors market with a top-selling perfume (With Love from Joe) and a fashion line called “Joe Satriani Seduction”.

You just wait another month and see what Taylor Swift 2018 earnings are after her tour. I bet you it'll be more than $100m. ;)

I think both Steve and Joe can have a smash album and make tens of millions if only they pair with a decent producer.

The two biggest surprises for me in that list were Katy Perry and Depeche Mode. Not that I wouldn't expect Katy Perry to make boatloads of money, the fact that she made more than a bunch of other similar performers. Her most recent album didn't spawn many hits and I thought she was sort of falling out of the zeitgeist.

Depeche Mode I don't get at all. Who is giving them all that money?

I was listening to the radio today in the car and as an intro to Beautiful Day they said that U2 was the highest earning band in the world last year, making over $100 million.
I was told Enya is Ireland's biggest earning artist.... you can imagine the amount of movie theatres, elevators and stores that play her music, so the royalties would be enormous....

There is one thing I remember when reading this thread. I am sure Joe knows his business, maybe you noticed or remember:

Back in 2016 Joe came up with a "Fan Appreciation Award". It was a "very limited edition" plague that would have your name inscribed and with a CoA signed by Joe.
He wanted to personally thank his fans - a fan is a friend forever!

You would only have to pay 350,-$ for the bigger one or 250,-$ for the smaller plague. Both were limited to 500 pcs. So that would have been 500 x 350,-$ + 500 x 250,-$, totals 300.000,-$ without playing a single note on his guitar! Take away the (surely low) costs of the plague, still not too bad. I think it did not too well, because later they changed the award and donated the money of new orders.

Of course nobody needed to buy it and I know it's business, but it left a slightly bitter taste for me. In 2018 he seems to have had better ideas to come up with money fast.

Personal thank yous, only $350 in addition to all the other money people spent on his merchandise, albums, signature products etc.

I get the business part and I get what you are saying, but I think a lot of those kinds of things are gross and exploitive.
