I got my WG587 and I'm loving it! now I need to get the right pickups.

I'm big into Nile lately and I know that they swear by the 6 string Invader But that's in 22 fret, Mahogany V-shaped deans. I have an Alder, 24 fret, superstrat 7 string.

So how will the Invader 7 do in an Alder body?

And what would be a good neck pickup?

I want Duncans for this one because I've never had any before.

Thanks guys!

I've used many Invaders in many guitars. Invader in Alder sounds imo BETTER than in mahogany. I.e. Jacksons, Strats. From that alone you should be great there. In Mahogany that extended bottom end becomes too boomy. It's not focused like some Dimarzios and the bass gets lost in the mix loosing articulation.

For the neck pickup in an alder guitar I would go with a Duncan 59

Invaders are muddy with tunings below D in any guitar IMO.

Esp with the added 7th string will lose definition.

On the other hand what is your current gear? We need more info on what are your tonal goals are.
Agree on the gear, however for the definition I prefer the Invader 7 to the Blaze Custom I used to use in my current RG1527. It's not just more punchy now, it's more articulate. I was going for the Petrucci sound, but completely failed to get it without Mesa Amps. Through my Marshalls the Invader seems to get the job done :)

surprised by the duncan 59, I have the 6 string version in the neck of an ESP ltd basswood guitar and I never thought of it as a metal pickup.

I like it clean with delay , chorous and / or reverb, a smooth sweet relaxing sound.
but with distortion its not at all clear, fast power chords lose definition and very little bite.

I like it, I use a high gain pickup in the bridge for when I want to bang the guitar then switch to the 59 in the neck for more bluesy sweet stuff, but nowadays I never use the 59 with distortion.

I sort of gave up on it for metal, for about a year the guitar has been in Keef open G 5 string tuning and I just play it when I feel like using 1 finger.

Nice pickup, but no bite when chugging.

Hang on, did they make an Invader 7 neck? I'm seeing some around, but not enough to where it looks completely legit. Because if I can get a full Invader combo, that's what I'll do. I know theres an Invader neck for 6 string but not sure about 7
