Has anyone watched Squid Game? What did you think?

I don't want to give anything crucial away just in case. I will say I've never seen anything quite like it. The juxtaposition of thematic elements and aesthetic elements (music, color, set design, etc.) made an impact, especially at the beginning. Another thing that stood out to me was how strict the rules were for everybody involved and how carefully they were followed given the sub-optimal context of the plot.

What are your thoughts?

That pretty much describes Korean food, too. Love it.

I must have watched the clean version because I can't recall any 69 jokes. Perhaps the English subtitles and English voice-overs were different?

One theme that I thought was done well was challenging the idea that people act in their own self-interest. Now, for the most part they did, but there were also moments of altruism. For example, when the Indian guy catches the main character in mid air so that he does not fall in Red Light, Green Light (saving him from being shot) he saved a life, but made the game more difficult for himself because there are more competitors. Those kinds of things stood out to me.

You do get those actions in real life, such as when one Olympian stops to help another who may have fallen or gotten hurt, etc. I think most of us would respond like that... not sure. As for the 69 joke, it's when the old rich guys in masks were sitting around and one of them mentioned betting on 69... and it went from there. I did have the English voices on (which I typically do not do).
