Has anyone here ever attempted this, and to do it in 3 days like he asks? Is the workout really as good as he claims? I have some vacation time in a couple weeks and thinking about pushing myself to try it. Even if I lessen the time from 10 hrs/day to like 5, and spend a week doing it.

How could anybody know if it's good as he claims?
Do you think people have crystal balls or can read Vai's mind?
Even if somebody who tried say it's good.....or bad......still our brains are different, we react different to stuff so other people opinions mean nothing.
You can't be serious.

I think a few folks have tried it here and gotten something out of it. Maybe they will chime in. No crystal balls need.

Oho I remember getting hold of the ten hour workout in photocopy form about 20 years ago... I never attempted it though!

I didn't know the 30 hour workout even existed. I found it online just now. Thanks for that! When my tour hits Japan (hopefully!) in 2015/16 I'll buy you a beer!!

I would be interested to know how you get on if you do attempt it.

Good luck!

Interesting! I didn't know of the existence of such workout! Anyway I've briefly glanced at it on the webz and there's definitely interesting concepts there to try (although perhaps not something you would do literally!)

I'll pass.
The 10 hr workout used to get reprinted about once a year in the various guitar mags back in the day. Think I remember seeing it a few years ago in the UK equivalent of Guitar World..

I dunno, doing it literally seems like it isnt a bad idea. Steve put some really interesting stuff in the scales part, stuff that I am really interested in trying. I just need more time :/

I think it would be hard to maintain mental focus to get something that would last 10 hours per day... without even considering the finger tendinitis that could occur from such overuse in so short a time.

I agree, it takes years of playing. Being good at something is about endurance. Same like vai himself, years of playing.

Yeah for SURE on the focusing.....My mind would be wandering all over the place if I tried that.
There are some really good exercises in that thing (on the link) but I think lowering the time to 5-6 hours a day for 6 days would be more beneficial.

It's better to play 2 hours focused, and analyse how u hit the notes with your right hand, and keeping control with your left hand. Than to play 6 hours just for the heck of it!
