When I got my Genesis RG550, like a poser, I had the evolution bridge put on there. I barely noticed a difference, in fact, I think the stock pickups have more gain than these. I didn't know any better. People on the reviews rave that these pickups make harmonics super easy and louder, I didn't notice this at all compared to stock. People on reviews said that is very hot and amplifies mistakes (probably newbies) and I didn't have this issue either compared to the stock one
I then got the rg565 and put Super Distorsion, they sound great on that guitar, if anything that pickup amplifies mistakes more
The evo are flat, they have no gain, no color, they're not versatile pickups, sound nothing like Vai's tone obviously cause he was always getting that from his amp.
I think I understand why, I mean these are basswood body and maple necks, already is bright sounding guitar, then you put the evo, and it just sounds brighter, so it just sounds awful
too much brightness for my liking
you need a pickup with more bass to balance things out, that's why the Super Distorsion works in the rg565
The tone zone is another pickup that would work very well in these basswood body/maple neck fretboard guitars
