Think You Can Tell Amps from Models?

Stumbled upon this contest. Might be a fun thing to do. I do not have anything to do with the competition, nor the site that holds it. Just a good way to spend 5 minutes listening to different clips of real amps and unreal amps. :)

Well, I've always felt and said that to most people's ears it's nearly impossible to tell a model from a 'real' amp...
BUT...
You can always feel the difference when you're actually playing... a good tube will have a spongy feel that makes the notes feel as though they are just jumping off the strings and out of the speaker... while a model feels more like work when you're playing.
Just my experience... YMMV
Anything (about) streamed over the internet will have such a compressed and degraded signal that it is pointless to do any critical listening.
The first post on the site with the samples:
"These audio files on the page are mp3s. If you feel that hi-res files will help you decide, you can download them all in 96kHz/24-bit format here."

Which is ironic, given that that's how so much music is actually listened to nowadays, probably through tiny little earphones...
I don't own a modeller, yet, but I'm sure my next amplifier (well, it doesn't really amplify) will be something that starts with Axe. I can't tell one from the other on recorded clips, nor when I hear someone playing through (a good) one.

I think it's OK to praise the mojo, the unexplainable, and it seems that's why many people like different things. That's fine. People like vintage gear too, and some nuggets like neon paint. It's all good. :)

Edit: I'm streaming TV in HD. Audio is also available in high definition. Most won't pay for it, but it is available (maybe not worldwide). With receivers being WiFi ready, you can stream through your regular stereo. I don't think the future is in-ear plugs. At least not at home. :)
I know sad ain't it?
Unless your name is "Mr Line" or "Mr Six" ;)

I can tell them apart, but I honestly can't tell you which is which!

My answers are

1 model
2 amp
3 model
4 amp
5 amp
6 model
7 bees in a can
8 wasps in a can
I don't know the answers, but you can send him an e-mail and maybe win some pedals. :) Good luck! :D
Well I don't think be invertebrate answers will win any competitions or any friends, but i'm curious to see what any other jemsiters think!!!
Tough to tell via whatever format they're using for the clips.

Not "here", but it's "here" on the other site. :)
