Eric Clapton: Fender, Martin, Gibson
Eric Johnson: Fender, Martin
John Mayer: Fender, Martin
Slash: Gibson, Guild

Back when people bought CDs instead of downloading music it wasnt uncommon to see 3 or 4 guitar companies listed as endorsers.

What doesn't make any sense about it? We are always talking a bout using different guitars to get different sounds, but when a pro can get different guitars free or at a serious price reduction it doesnt make sense?

Brand snobbery or not, I wouldn't call Yamaha a major force in either field. They may make electric and acoustics, and they may be decent guitars but they arent a Fender, Martin, Ibanez, Taylor, etc....

Fender makes both electric and acoustics, but their acoustics are no where near in the same league as their electrics, so they dont fall into that category either.

Fender and Gibson may be the two big boys, but how much are they really competing with each other. Gibson doesnt make anything Strat or Tele like and Fender doesnt make anything Gibson-esque. If having a Clapton model with each company works for them, why not do it. I could see Ibanez not wanting to share an endorsee with Jackson because they are both known for making superstrats, but Fender and Gibson couldnt be farther apart.
