Hey guys. I have a late 80's ESP Mirage Custom, with an ESP made liscensed Floyd Rose. The problem is that one of the stud inserts on the treble side for the trem is actually pulling up, and the actual insert is sticking out of the body about 2-3 mm high. Since the inserts are sticking out, I cannnot adjust the bridge height lower than that point, and the action is much higher than I would like.

What causes this problem? The body is either made of maple or alder, both of which are pretty dense solid woods. The trem is non recessed, but floats enough for about 2 steps of pull up.

And what could I do to fix the problem? I was planning to take it to a tech (although there are no good techs in my area), but i wondered if there was a fix that did not require professional experience. Thanks in advance

There are tutorials and threads on this subject. Basically you or your tech will push it back down and glue it in place. But do a search on studs and inserts and such and you'll find a lot of info on it.

Depending on how tight it is, you can put the stud in it and pull up CAREFULLY with a pry bar or claw hammer. Pull only straight up, and be very careful not to damage the threads, stud, or body finish. Put glue in the hole and press the anchor all the way down in. Something like epoxy will work well (some would say wood glue, but that won't hold to the metal very well). Make sure you don't get glue down in the threads inside the anchor. Another way to do it would be to just press the anchor back down in and then run some water-thin super glue down around the anchor, repeating until the gap around it is filled and the anchor is set firmly. Again, be careful to keep the glue out of the inside of the anchor.
