My guess is it's either a one-off for an endorse, or someone swapped the neck to a usa custom neck. My understanding is that all the production 1989 usa custom guitars had graphics. Speculation of course...

Thank you for the resposnes; as far as I can see, the body contours seem ok (maybe the lighting put you off), even the volume knob is in the period correct position. I'm thinking it was either ordered as such, without the graphic, or someone paired the usa custom neck with the period correct RG 570 body. Considering the country I live in, both seem improbable enough, though...

Hi guys,

Forgive me if this is mentioned in the thread (I tried to skim through the whole thing), but with the Dave Bunker made guitars from 94-96, how would you rate them quality wise compared to the J Custom's being made in the past 3-4 years?

The Dave Bunker models were very nice, albeit with those unique 'tension-free' necks. (But I've also noticed a lot of those transparent finishes fade very badly.) J Customs are normally in a league by themselves (as you've probably noticed from the prices!) Nonetheless, you can't go wrong with either. Good luck!

thanks! I also have my eye on the rga j customs so based on your response I may lean that route!

I love the usa customs (I had one or more of all variations), but as far as I`m concerned the Bunkers (USRG) are not the best of them. The quality of the Bunkers varies. Ibanez stoped the co-production becaue of the strong variing quality of RBC / Bunker.
I think the only US-Ibanez with the same quality (compared to j customs) are the American Masters, they are quite perfect. I would take the j custom.

saw this thread so I'll add a few to it.

Aliens Revenge (sold) I gigged the F out of this one, it is very worn but it was an epic player. probably the reason I got into Ibanez in the first place.

Grave Situation (sold) this was my second USA custom I had.

Now for my current babies. lol

Trick or Treat. Love this one very much. I don't gig it; just studio use. its very minty.

Grave Situation. This is by far and away the best ibanez guitar I've ever played. its better than any other usa custom I've had or even the high end artist models. also Minty.

I'm always looking for more. I love the more spooky graphic ones.

Hi, recently this baby came into my position. Any details would be greatly appreciated
pretty sure that is a Mike Lipe custom. I know he was at the LACS for a while and did a lot of the custom orders. I have an Ibanez LACS from around the same time but has a different back of the headstock logo. yours just says custom shop and has the mike lipe burbank on it. also the LACS stuff used a different serial number system staring with the letters LA.

Wow what a treasure trove of info. thank you! I just happen to be writing a full entry in my blog on Ibanez serial numbers. I hope some of you can read it and tell me if you think I've gotten anything wrong. I'm open to any input. I have 38 other manufacturers I've covered so that's a lot of serial number info.

Please check out the Ibanez entry if you have a second:

I take it back now, the Mike Lipe LA above has a 7/90 date on it, so mid 90' would be the start of LA production.
