V series pickups, who makes 'em

1692 Views 11 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  lyconxero
I emailed a tech rep from Dimarzio asking about specs for V1 through V8 Ibanez pickups. He wrote back that Dimarzio did not produce those pickups for Ibanez. I had always heard that they were made by Dimarzio. Were they inspired by a Dimarzio model and made by Ibanez? Just curious. I love the sound of the V1 in the neck possition.......

Dimarzios make the Dimarsio/IBZs. The V series are Ibanez's own pickups. I don't know who makes 'em, sorry.
they were made by MaXON -Japan ( at least from what I heard).

dimarzio only involved in designing..perhaps....who knows?

I doubt it. I read somewhere that they were designed by Ibanez themselves. The V series has been around for a long time now (from the V1 and so on...) and I think Dimarzio designed the IBZ/USA pickups on the USA customs. Now I think that Dimarzio only design (and produce) the Dimrazio/IBZs. My 2 sen.

Seeing you posting here and there about guitar pickups and guitars you seem to know quite a lot.... :) Which means it's good I can ask you for some advice since we're staying quite close

Jim Donahue (long time Ibanez employee) confirmed that V2s were originally made by Maxon, then production switched over to DiMarzio at some point - my guess is around '88. The V2s were based on the DiMarzio Super Distortion - the original aftermarket pickup. The case may be different with the other V pickups.
V7 and V8 suck way too hard to be made by DiMarzio... :?

Hehe, but they're still better than their 7-string counterparts!
lol, ill never, ever understand why they put those on 2027s... :?

It's because they're cheap bastards and they KNOW that people will still buy the guitar with thoughts of replacing the pickups anyway.
